Logs to Lumber Tree Service & Syner Wood and Horn Shop

We are proud to donate a percentage of the material from our tree removals to local woodworkers to help us in repurposing and minimizing waste.

How can a tree be repurposed?

There are MANY ways! We believe every tree has value, even after it's removed, and we strive to honor that value through creative repurposing. Here is one example of how a tree that we removed was processed into a usable clipboard from start to finish.

Removed

During a removal we calculate and remove the tree in usable sizes for milling and other projects, when applicable. After the tree is transported back to the sawmill yard it is tagged to allow us to identify its unique origin.
Milled

Saw logs are then milled into boards or slabs depending on the desired lumber. We have a 30" Bandsaw Mill and an Alaskan Chainsaw Mill. The Alaskan Mill is great for logs that are too large or to cut logs onsite.
Stacked & Stickered

Boards and slabs are stacked and stickered (stacked with small wood pieces to leave a gap for airflow in between). Fresh cut wood has a 60-80% moisture content level and is air dried to have a 10-15% moisture content level.
Kiln Dried

In order to use wood indoors where the relative humidity is really low, we kiln dry the wood until it has a 6-8% moisture content level. This process varies due to species, size, and thickness.
Planed & Refined

Once the wood is dry we process the boards into usable dimensions through various processes and techniques. This board was planned, trimmed, and sanded to function as a small clipboard.
Finished

The board was then customized with our logo using a portable laser engraver. Small holes were drilled and the clip and hardware installed. Lastly a finish was applied to protect the wood.
